ABA Terminology

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a type of therapy meant to influence how a person responds to an identified trigger. It's a scientific form of treatment, and efficacy has been proven through decades of data. Like many technical forms of autism treatment, ABA is associated with plenty of acronyms and complex-sounding terms. Families don't need to become experts in ABA terminology, but it can be helpful for them to understand common concepts, including antecedents, discrete trial training, and extinction. Therapists can explain these concepts to curious family members, but an online glossary can help to spark conversations.
